Situated atop of 160 metre high sacred Nilachal hill, (Blue Mountain) Overlooking the town of the great river Brahmaputra, this ancient temple representative of the old architectural style of Assam marks the legendry spot where the most procreative aspects of the mother Goddess fell to earth. It is the ancient Shakti Temple in India where the ancient tantricism is still practised, originally constructed by divine artisan Viswakarma a legendary age ago. The Present Kamakhya Tempe was said to be rebuilt by King Narnaraya in 1565 A.D. but the precinct of temple retains sculptures and carved Components, the earliest of which may be placed in the 6th century A.D.

 Kamakhya preserves shrines of ten different aspects of the devi, such as Kali, Tara, Suruchi, Bhubane-Swari, Bhairavi, Chinna Masta, Dhumavati, Bagala, Matangi and Kamala.
